Thursday, 9/8-Cuttyhunk to Newport, R.I.

Horrible weather in AM including pouring rain, thunder, lightening, then calm and sunny at 1; crazy!
Had lunch then decided to depart. I really love this scenic little island, but we already had a nice walk, so dropped the odd mooring where we had to thread our own rope through a funny upright post.

The auto pilot was really acting up and almost didn’t engage. Ground away for awhile before it caught.
Nice sailing for awhile, but then the wind came up as we sailed out of the sun and into overcast skies. Quite foggy , dim and chilly when we sailed into Newport right at 6 pm. Had to dodge a J-24 regatta, and then the largest sloop in the world, Mirabella, came motoring past us. Newport marine didn’t answer , but Old port gave us mooring #11 just for tonight. We learned later that everything is full due to a regatta this weekend and the Newport boat show coming up.
Went in to the Ann St. pier and settled on the Red Parrot for dinner. Seems pretty good. Walked up and down Thames street to find the Starbucks, but everything else was shut, so we returned to Anomaly.
